PHTA 2352 - Clinical Internship I Description A three-week clinical assignment in a physical therapy setting. This course is designed to provide clinical experience utilizing skills obtained in the didactic and lab courses. The student will perform technical skills which they have shown competency in the lab setting under personal supervision progressing to clinical supervision as determined by the Clinical Instructor. The student will perform self-assessment and goal setting for continued development of their individual Professional Development Plan.
Pre-Requisite Acceptance into the Physical Therapist Assistant program of study.

- Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge base to ensure clinical competency at completion of Clinical Internship I by passing the CCE with a grade of 76%.
- Demonstrate ability to self-assess for evaluation criteria. Assess using student self -assessment of the Evaluation tool at mid-term and final of Clinical Internship I clinical. Based on their self-assessment and instructor feedback students will demonstrate the ability to establish Professional Development Goals.
- Participate in an orientation of the department and hospital as determined by the facility.
- Adheres to the standards set forth by the APTA concerning PTA’s role in the clinical education of the SPTA.
- Basic understanding of quality improvement/assurance
- Describe aspects of organizational planning and operation
- Students will perform 20 hours of service learning for non-profit organizations to include the Trifest for MS organization for a required 5 hours of group work.
