RESP 2423 - Clinical Practicum II Description A continuum from RESP 2306 . Emphasis will be on critical care and mechanical ventilation.
Pre-Requisite Acceptance into the Respiratory Therapy program of study.

Learning Outcomes
- Recommend and evaluate perscribed therapy according to patient data
- Create evidence based respiratory patient care plans base on patient data
- Perform therapeutic procedures correctly
- Modify therapeutic procedure based on patient response
- Perform the following: correctly assemble, ensure cleanliness, troubleshoot, administer and modify equipment for respiratory therapy procedures
- Communicate each of the therapies/procedures in a way that patients can understand the procedure and its purpose
- Adhere to the American Association for Respiratory Care’s ethical standards
- Adhere to rules and regulations established by the:
- Arkansas State Respiratory Care Practice Act
- American Association for Respiratory Care Clinical Practice Guidelines
- Interact on a professional level with patients, families, and other members of the health care team
- Develop assessment skills as evidenced by performance on care plans
- Develop healthcare provider communication and teamwork skills as evidenced by daily evaluations
- Develop time management and organizational skills as evidenced by daily evaluations
- Adapt to functioning as part of the healthcare team in the intensive care unit and neonatal/pediatric units as evidenced by daily evaluations
- Begin working in the ICU with mechanically ventilated patients. Initiating mechanical ventilation and ventilator maintenance with assistance from RT staff and working toward indirect supervision by the RT staff as evidenced by competency evaluations competed
- Acquire procedural competency by completing assigned competencies
- Process data and recommend appropriate actions related to actual patient care situations as evidenced by performance on care plans
