RESP 2523 - Clinical Practicum III


Description
A continuum from RESP 2423 . Emphasis will be placed on managing and weaning the mechanically ventilated patient, pediatrics, and neonatal care. Students will also be exposed to pulmonary diagnostics, home care, sleep studies, and cardiopulmonary rehabilitation.

Pre-Requisite
Acceptance into the Respiratory Therapy program of study.

  •  Recommend and evaluate perscribed therapy according to patient data
  • Create evidence based respiratory patient care plans base on patient data
  • Perform therapeutic procedures correctly
  • Modify therapeutic procedure based on patient response
  • Perform the following: correctly assemble, ensure cleanliness, troubleshoot, administer and modify equipment for respiratory therapy procedures
  • Communicate each of the therapies/procedures in a way that patients can understand the procedure and its purpose

  • Adhere to rules and regulations established by the:
  • Arkansas State Respiratory Care Practice Act

  • Manage mechanically ventilated patients: initiating, managing and weaning with assistance from RT staff and working toward indirect supervision by the RT staff as evidenced by competency evaluations competed
  • Acquire procedural competency by completing assigned competencies
  • Process data and recommend appropriate actions related to actual patient care situations as evidenced by performance on care plans
