THTR 2103 - Screenwriting I Description This course is an introduction to screenwriting format, craft, and technique, with an emphasis on the fundamentals of storytelling. Students workshop multiple revisions of a short narrative script. The goal is to complete a polished script suitable for screenwriting competitions and production. Students can purchase script formatting software with the course and/or have access to multiple free online screenwriting format templates.

Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this course students will:
- To have an understanding of the basic craft of writing a screenplay for film and television.
- To gain knowledge and exposure to different script formats, scriptwriting software/programs, screenwriting instructional materials, submission opportunities, and industry best practices.
- To practice writing individually and collaboratively with faculty and peer feedback.
- Learn how to complete and market your screenplay.
- To have the capability to identify various structures and genres of films and television, along with how they relate to screenwriting.

- Students will write 1 screenplay and 1 teleplay (television script)
- Students will read and provide script coverage by analyzing at least 5 screenplays during the semester.
- Students will learn how to create a pitch presentation for a film or television series.
- Students will learn complete a scriptwriting software assessment to learn screenplay formatting.
