ART 2843 - Printmaking I Description The purpose of this course is to expose students to the world of printmaking. Through an exploration of a variety of processes, the students will acquire understanding and hands-on skills within the multiple facets of the medium of printmaking. This studio experience will involve creative projects in the fundamental techniques of relief, intaglio, and monotype.

Projects will be chosen from (but not limited to) the following:
Relief:
- one color linocut
- three color reduction linocut Intaglio:
- drypoint engraving
- etching (nontoxic/alternative process)
Serigraphy:
- hand-built screens, using photo-emulsion generated stencils
Monotype:
- hand-painted, hand-rolled image transfers. Learning Activities In-class drawing/planning of imagery for each of the listed processes In-class creation of plates and printing of limited edition prints for each of the listed processes Critiques
Assessments
- Projects will be graded as limited edition sets of prints
Grading guidelines
- A minimum of 95% of this course’s grade should be in-class printmaking projects with some variation allowed for outside idea/imagery generation toward the finished edition of prints
