LEGL 2163 - Immigration Law Description Provides an overview of the federal immigration system and the concepts and procedures of immigration law. It examines immigration law and regulations as well as practical applications in immigration law, including the naturalization process, visa procedures, and the right and obligations of aliens in the United States. Emphasis is placed on I.N.S. structure, procedures, and filings, family immigration, asylum, criminal aspects of immigration law, and employer sanctions (Form I-9 compliance), with special attention paid to drafting immigration forms and understanding immigration case management and technology.
Pre-Requisite Completion of LEGL 1043 with a grade greater than or equal to C.

Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this course, students should be able to:
- Develop the vocabulary of immigration law.
- Describe the laws and policies relating to immigration into the United States.
- Identify how an individual gains lawful entry into the United States.
- Describe deportation and removal requirements.
- Determine the worker preference categories for certain visas.
- Identify asylum and protection issues and the requirements for the same.
- Explain the appeal process for denied applications and petitions.
- Describe the naturalization process and its requirements.
- Draft various documents related to the immigration process, including but not limited to Family Based or Worker Based Petitions and other immigration filing documents.
