MEDA 1014 - Medical Assisting


Description
The Medical Assisting course provides students with the knowledge and practical skills necessary to become competent and compassionate professionals in a dynamic healthcare environment. This comprehensive course combines classroom instruction and hands-on laboratory practice, to prepare students for a variety of roles within medical offices, clinics, and healthcare facilities.

Minor Surgical Assistance

Basic Lab Procedures

  1. Collect and handle specimens correctly, including venipuncture, capillary puncture, and urine collection.
  2. Perform CLIA-waived tests, such as glucose monitoring and urinalysis, and interpret results.

Lab Safety and Equipment Use

  1. Operate laboratory equipment, including microscopes, following safety and quality control protocols.

Pharmacology and Medication Administration

  1. Identify common drug classifications and their uses in medical treatment.
